Theatre is about connection – with stories, with people, with communities, and with each other. I invite you to come and make a connection at The Q in 2025.
Building a season is tricky business. Imagine designing a patchwork quilt, and then imagine that all the sections keep moving around, changing shape and colour. The pattern is never quite what I thought it would be when I started, but the result is always colourful, interesting, and full of excitement.
I strive to bring theatre to our community that they will enjoy, that they might not otherwise get to see, to bring something that engages with sections of our community who perhaps haven’t come to the theatre before. Live performance is for everyone – and whether the show that makes your heartbeat faster is a tribute band, musical theatre, magic, comedy or drama, there is something in our program that will tickle your fancy.
In 2025, we have plenty to offer families at The Q. The Listies are back with their latest show, along with Fringe Festival favourites, Mr Snotbottom, and the Trash Test Dummies, and we have an exquisite story from Terrapin Puppet Theatre in Tasmania that will inspire and delight.
I’m extremely proud to be entering the fourth year of our Q The Locals program. Over the previous three years, we have seen our local shows go on to be published, head to festivals, and go on tour. The impact of this program on both artists and audience has been extraordinary, and we cannot wait to introduce you to the next crop of talented local artists and their stories.
Our season brings opera, comedy, popular music, Shakespeare, cabaret, drama, and musical theatre to Queanbeyan. The year kicks off with Lakespeare and The Q co-presenting Macbeth under the stars in Aunty Louise Brown Park, and the return of Garry Starr, fresh from sell out seasons in London and Edinburgh. We have the first interstate tour for Opera Queensland with Are You Lonesome Tonight, and Echo Theatre’s God of Carnage returns before heading off on tour. Celebrate NAIDOC week with First Nations legends, Yothu Yindi, or spend World Environment Day watching Belvoir Theatre’s funny and thought-provoking, Scenes from the Climate Era.
Theatre is about connection – with stories, with people, with communities, and with each other. I invite you to come and make a connection at The Q in 2025.
