12 – 30 March 2019
You are invited to Exhibition Opening Tuesday 12 March 2019 5.30pm – 7.30pm
The Stromlo Observatory is located where my father used to work as a forester, close to the first house I grew up in. The building contains the memories of several generations of my family.
The beautiful markings on the walls and destruction of the observatory (during the 2003 bush fires) attracted me with its unique circular shape.
During the past couple of years I have been working with photographs of differing backgrounds merged with photographs of my daughters. My mother died when I was ten years old, she was one of two red headed girls and many years later I have two red headed daughters. I worked with the photographs of the building and my daughters to create portraits of ghostly intrigue.
My work explores the haunting quality posed between the spirits of my daughters reaching through the void, the power to communicate with our ancestors..
