Deadline: 5pm, Monday 15 September 2025
Q The Locals 2026
We’re inviting local creatives to be part of our 2026 Q the Locals season – a unique opportunity to develop and present bold, original work as part of The Q’s program.
Q the Locals has been running since 2022, and has staged 12 full productions, hosted 4 developments, supported over 90 artists, and invested close to 120k in local creative development.
Our productions have gone on to be published, head off on tour both regionally and overseas, and been programmed in the Adelaide Fringe.
In 2026, we’re looking for shows that haven’t been staged locally before: this could be a brand new work, a fresh reinvention of a classic, or a project still in development – whether it’s a draft script, a cabaret-in-progress, or the early spark of an idea.
We’re especially excited by proposals that activate non-traditional or unexpected spaces beyond the theatre stage!
Full Productions
The Q will support successful projects with a range of in-kind support outlined in this draft budget, to present up to 6 performances. Please note this in-kind support is subject to change depending on the scale of production and number of performances.
The Q will deduct the expenses listed in the attached budget from the final box office and 80% of the remaining income will be paid to the project/artist.
Developments
Developments can be supported in a variety of ways, according to the project. A few examples are below, but we can tailor these to suit the creatives involved. This is not about outcome, but about supported process.
· A series of showings with audience to shape a performance with feedback over a period of time
· A week of time in the space with the support of dramaturg/director/technical and marketing advice. If a public showing is useful then that can be managed by the venue
· Use of the space with no support required- sometimes you just need a quiet space to work
This is a fantastic opportunity for emerging artists and creatives looking to take a leap, test something new, and be mentored by established theatre professionals as you bring your vision to life.
Please note:
While The Q is proud to facilitate our Q the Locals program through a range of in-kind support, the onus is ultimately on the artist to make their work happen.
